Reading the comparison
Each figure is a share of all homes on the Council Tax valuation list in that area at 31 March 2026, taken from the Valuation Office summary tables. Bands compare only within one country: England's eight bands rest on values at 1 April 1991 and Wales's nine on values at 1 April 2003, so an English band C and a Welsh band C are different ranges. Property types, bedrooms and build periods follow the same definitions on both lists.
Bedroom figures cover homes with a recorded number of bedrooms; annexes and caravans are left out of them. The tool only sets numbers side by side. It does not estimate a bill, a band for a particular home or a property value.
